French Connection

7/10, 7/10

FRENCH CONNECTION/2 (1971/75). A good action thriller is nearly as hard to make as a good comedy. Good sequels are as rare as unicorns. French Connection is one of the best thrillers of all time, and as good as it was 40 years ago, while the sequel is – in its own very different way – another fabulous piece of work. Gene Hackman stars in both as Popeye Doyle, a New York cop who annoys people, but gets the job done his way. In Part 1 he tackles Frog One, a French drug dealer; in Part 2, he goes to France to locate him again. You have to see these films.
