ELEGY (2008). There are the makings of a good film in this adaptation of a Philip Roth short novel about a 60ish literature professor (Ben Kingsley) who falls in love with a student (Penelope Cruz) who loves him back. But his jealousy and fear that she will leave him destroys the relationship. Annoying ingredients include; a voicover, soupy music, and a so-called friend (Dennis Hopper) who makes unhelpful suggestions.
