EDUCATING RITA (1983). The film (based on a stage play) that started Julie Walters’ career, and gave Michael Caine’s a kick up the arse. She’s a working class housewife looking to get an education, he’s an Open University professor who drinks too much and is jaded by experience. Any resemblance to My Fair Lady (without the singing) is purely intentional.
