DEATH DEFYING ACTS (2007). Somewhere out there there’s a great film waiting to be made about Houdini, but no one’s made it yet, and the failure of this miserable film makes it less likely that any such film will get made soon.. Given that his life was full of extraordinary adventures, it seems pointless to make up a fictional story – as this film does – which attempts to combine the twin elements of escapology and spiritualism. Guy Pearce is OK as Houdini; Catherine Zeta-Jones is as wooden as always.
