THE DAY OF THE JACKAL (1973). It’s not as easy to make a really good thriller as you’d think, which is why this film still packs a punch. Based on a novel about a fictional plot to assassinate French President de Gaulle, the flm follows the Jackal (a British killer played by Edward Fox) and the attempts of the police to locate and stop him. Directed by Fred Zinneman who made High Noon and A Man For All Seasons.
