THE DAMNED UNITED (2009). The book on which this is based was unfilmable, set inside Brain Clough’s head and making him out to be paranoid beyond belief. The film is calmer, kinder and mostly enjoyable, though the actors playing footballers are the least athletic I’ve seen. But Michael Sheen as Clough and Timothy Spall as Peter Taylor, along with Colm Meaney as Don Revie contribute to a degree of believability and tension. Look on youTube for the real Clough, though – he was and is inimitable.
