DEATH AND THE MAIDEN (1994). A film based on a stage play, in which two men and a woman are alone in a house for an extended period. Sigourney Weaver is the woman, a former victim of an unnamed regime (let’s say Chile); her husband has accepted a lift home from a stranger (Ben Kingsley), and she becomes convinced that he is the man who raped and tortured her (she was blindfolded while in captivity). He denies the accusation, she insists she is right, the husband is torn. Polanski directed, and it is a compelling and thought provoking film.
