CITY OF GOD (2002). Fernando Meirelles electrified the film world with this exhilarating show off of a film about favela street gangs in Brazil. From the opening shot onwards, the cutting is electric, the pace unrelenting and your attention is absolute. There are any number of clever camera techniques, which keep the pace and interest in the film high, strong characters and a plot whose convolutions are unpredictable. A cracker of a film.
