CITIZEN KANE (1941). OK, so here we are, at the landmark film of the 20th century. First thing. Watch the film. You can’t express an opinion without seeing it, and given that it’s been in every top ten list for about 70 years, what reason is there to hesitate? Apart from anything else, it’s a cracking piece of film making, especially when you consider that writer/director/star Orosn Welles was 25 when he made it, and reinvented cinema language in the process. Once you’ve watched it, you can add your opinion as to its current status.
