8/10

CHINATOWN (1974). In any retrospective of the 70s, this stands out as a great film; ditto film noir; ditto Jack Nicholson movies. In fact, it’s just a great film. Nicholson stars as Jake Gittes a private eye who thinks he’s smart but discovers he’s not. Faye Dunaway is the femme fatale with an awful secret and John Huston is one of the best villains ever to send tremors down your moral spine. No point in spoiling the plot for you, just get on and watch it. (Director Polanski is the weaselly punk with the nasty knife).
