CHARIOTS OF FIRE (1981). An endless staple of wet afternoons on television, this is a rather jingoistic account of the 1924 Paris Olympics and two athletes in particular; Harold Abrahams, shunned because he’s Jewish, and Eric Liddell, a Scot of extraordinary ability whose religious beliefs prevented from running on the Sabbath. It’s hard to resist the uplift factor.
