This is the first European film from Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, and it won Juliette Binoche the Best Actress prize at Cannes in May.

I have respect for Kiarostami's films, which are perfectly attuned to the arthouse festival circuit. His work is dry, intellectual and beautifully constructed, but lacks the human warmth that would appeal more strongly to my taste. But Juliette Binoche is a treasure and a joy to behold, so I will go and see this film hoping that her passion can act as a counter balance to the director's ascetic approach.

Ah, the plot. Not quite sure, but it's set in Italy, and Binoche plays a Frenchwoman who meets an Englishman. It's noticeable that in the credits, they are the only two characters to be given names.
