BECOMING JANE (2007). Like Shakespeare, very little is known about the life of Jane Austen, so I guess it was inevitable that someone should choose to take liberties with her private life. However, I think we can safely assume that she bore little resemblance to Anne Hathaway, and the romantic tryst with James McAvoy is based on very flimsy evidence. Essentially, it’s costume drama for people who can’t get enough of women in bonnets and men in tight uniforms.
