BEAU TRAVAIL (1999). Claire Denis’ film about the foreign legion is a defining work about a group of men under pressure. It’s a work of art as much as anything, wherein narrative is sometimes sacrificed for beautiful imagery. It’s not a masterpiece but I admire it a great deal.
