BABETTE’S FEAST (1987). A French woman takes refuge in a 19th century Danish community, at the home of two spinster sisters. On the occasion of an important anniversary, she begs to be allowed to make a meal for the community and is allowed to do so. The meal is a revelation. And the film (based on a story by Karen ‘Out Of Africa’ Blixen) is also something special, juxtaposing the sensuous pleasure of culinary treats with the austerity of a strict religious sect.
