BECKET (1964). Peter O’Toole’s first crack at playing Henry II (followed by The Lion in Winter) sees him pitted against Richard Burton as his friend turned foe in 11th century England. Henry appointed Becket as Archbishop of Canterbury with the expectation of having the Church at his beck and call. But it didn’t work out that way.
