THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD (2007). A long title, and the film isn’t short, but it’s one of the best westerns I’ve ever seen. Slow paced, deliberate and beautifully filmed, it also packs a tremendous emotional punch and kept me gripped throughout. It has that magical quality of being unexpected and engrossing at the same time. Brad Pitt is very good, as is Casey Affleck.
