ALMOST FAMOUS (2000). I wanted to like this film; directed by Cameron Crowe, who was still credible then, and dealing with the mythology of rock music. And then there’s the stellar cameo of Philip Seymour Hoffman as legendary journalist Lester Bangs. But it never quite works out. Too anodyne, too shallow, and fatally, regarding groupiedom as mostly cool.
