ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930). A lot of films from the 1930s seem very dated; this one is a true classic. Based on the novel by Eric Maria Remarque, it tells the story of WW1 through German eyes, as a group of patriotic young students head off to war burning with zeal to do their duty. The story of their disillusionment is unforgettable; as is this film.
